Can my moms period affect me?

I might sound like an idiot here but I'm not sure. I heard somewhere that if your around the same female for a long time your periods will start happening the same time. I started having my period 2 months ago so it isn't really on a track yet. But my moms on here period and my stomach rumbles and I get small cramps when Im with her over a couple if hours. Is this just common.
