How big is Seo Taiji in South Korea?

I know a little bit of Seo Taiji and I am aware he is very popular in South Korea. But I was relatively young when Seo Taiji was dominating music sales in the 90's. Can someone relate to me just how big he was back then and how his popularity compares to the current idols that make up a large majority of the music market in Korea?
