Why do we have censors?

I'm tired of my favorite games,movies, and tv shows all being censored. I figure the whole point of censorship is so people don't get offended, but do people really watch south park and play manhunt expecting it to be kid-friendly? Why must we all suffer because a couple people watched adult content and found something distasteful? isn't that what RATINGS are for?
